Proserpine and the Elixir of the Gods

A long winded title to a short lived piece of artwork. Seen in progress and completed, the creeping shadow gives an idea of the hours spent laying chalk and pastel into pavement: about 15 hours over two days.



Having Victoriana on the brain, in light of the reading just the week before, I chose to design a tribute to D.G. Rossetti's "Proserpine". Note the substitution of the espresso cup and stovetop press in the foreground.

Red House is an intimate and intense view of the entangled lives of Victoriancounterculture artists William Morris, Dante Rossetti, and Edward Burne-Jones. Spun from the memories of Georgiana Burne-Jones, the oft-neglected biographer of her husband's life, the colorful lives of the Pre-Raphaelites become violently caught up in one woman's paradoxical attempt to relive her own past while simultaneously destroying it.
